| FOCA goes far beyond Roe v. Wade (abortion decision by Supreme Court in 1973). It will nullify more than 550 widely supported "common sense" precautions and protections currently in place throughout the U.S.
|
| Potential results if FOCA becomes law: No Choice for Pregnant Women No guarantee of trained doctors or safe clinics with suitable health precautions. No pre-procedure ultrasounds, counseling, or other information about abortion risks and alternatives. No waiting periods or informed consent.
No Choice for Babies Abortion virtually unrestricted at all stages of life --- no matter how healthy the baby is. The ban on "partial birth abortion" voided and more babies killed near/at full-term.
No Choice for Parents No notification when their minor age daughter has an abortion. No opportunity to refuse/consent to their minor age daughter's abortion.
No Choice for Medical Personnel and Institutions (including faith-based hospitals) Doctors, nurses, technicians, and hospitals face discrimination if they decline to participate in abortions, regardless of their faith principles. No option for conscientious objection, thus infringing upon freedom of religion.
No Choice for Taxpayers Taxpayers forced to fund abortions. No option to "opt out" of indirect participation in intrinsic evil. Is this the kind of "choice" and "freedom" you want in America

Tell them that this bill is not about reducing the number of abortions but will remove widely supported "common sense" precautions that are currently in place. (Parental consent of minor, informed consent for mother, "partial birth" abortion ban, no conscientious objection for nurses, Dr., faith-based hospitals--must do abortions). | |
Barack Obama: "Well, the first thing I'd do as President is, is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing that I'd do." Speech to Planned Parenthood July 17, 2007 | Cardinal Justin Rigali: "We cannot reduce abortions by invalidating the very laws that have been shown to reduce abortion." Letter to Congress Sept. 19, 2008 |
| We must firmly urge Congress to stop this proposed law before it reaches the President's desk!
